Three Embroidered Dowry Bags, Gujarat, India, Early-Mid 20th C. Cotton applique and embroidery with mirrorwork. Rabari people. Such bags were used to pack th e bride's things when she moved from her parents home to her husband's. Ranging in size from: 1'6'' x 1'9'' (46 x 53 cm) to 1'10'' x 2'8'' (56 x 81 cm). Provenance: The Carol Summers Collection of Indian Folk Textiles.
