Item Details
Description
Updated Description: American. 1910. Brass. In 1908, National introduced a new numbering system that grouped their various designs into classes. This brass register, assembled in March 1910 and placed into service the following month, is a model "313" from the 300 class and features the "dolphin pattern design" created by Tiffany. Due to the size, affordability and functionality of registers in this class, they became quite popular with smaller businesses such as candy stores, cigar stands and barber shops. This example has a nickel-plated dust cover and is supplied with an original "key lock" knob and "total-adding counter" reset key as well as a reproduction key for the lid lock. The register retains the original factory build sheet on the underside of the cash drawer. SN 816402. The register will require service to reinstall or, if broken, to replace one small part from the inner mechanical workings that was found to be detached and laying loose within the base. Although the register still appears to be somewhat functional, due to the foregoing it's being sold on an "as is" basis. The total-adding counter still registers all transactions but cannot be reset to zero as the cylinder has seized; a common occurrence through lack of use in registers of this vintage. The 5 & 10 cent key pad numerals are worn and the marble coin shelf exhibits early epoxy repairs to a couple of breaks. A tear and a little material loss are evident in the fabric liner on the underside of the lid. With the exception of a 5" length of oak that is missing along the lower back section, the base exhibits only minor wear in a few areas. At some point in the past, the brass cabinet was cleaned and polished and, over time, has developed a nice patina. Horseless Carriage Museum, Fenelon Falls, Ont. 21 x 10 x 16".
