Tang Muli is a Chinese painter and poet born in 1947 currently based in Montreal, Quebec. He started painting at the early age of six, and received his first international art award when he was twelve. During the Cultural Revolution launched by Mao Zedong in 1966, Tang was assigned to work in a dairy-farm and received art commissions during the same period. He was then assigned to work as a designer at the Shanghai Agricultural Exhibition. He completed several art degrees in the 1980s including a degree from the Royal College of Art in London.

The canvas has been laid to card, it undulates in different places. There are a few spots of surface dirt.

UV light reveals no clear evidence of retouching or restoration.
