Chanel Haute Couture Suit,  c.1960

This suit retains the original customs tag from its import to the United States. The tag reads "˜Coll. Of Customs, N. Y. Intl Airport, Entry Under One Year Bond." New York International Airport was renamed John F. Kennedy International Airport in 1963, following the president's assassination. Although the suit has not been dated precisly, it can be deduced that it was created prior to this, likely placing its creation between 1960-1963.

Haute Couture cream silk satin fancy weave dress, jacket, and belt with four rhinestone buttons down the center front of the jacket, faux wrap skirt with two sets of hook and eye closures and six snaps, attached silk satin shell with three button front closure, and self fabric belt.

Condition:  The overall condition is poor with the following issues.  The silk satin is splitting around the inside collar of the jacket with holes and fabric loss. Corrosion and missing rhinestones on all of the buttons, tarnish residue on the fabric at the button holes and also at the hem of the jacket where the chain is located. There is a 3.5" seam separation, separating the shell from the waist band of the skirt. There is a 2.5" separation on the front of the shell separating the trim. Splitting throughout the shell, exaggerated separation at the buttonholes. Corrosion and missing rhinestones on all of the buttons, tarnish residue on the fabric underneath the buttons and also at the hem of the jacket where the chain is located.Conservation has been done on the interior behind the buttons for further reinforcement.    Everything is sold 'As Is'. The stated overall condition of the lot is based on the assumption that the wear is consistent with age and use.
