With an inscription, two seals to recto.Zhang Yin (1761–1829) was a Qing dynasty painter. This painting is well composed and possesses a vast sense of space through the smart use of negative space. Far in the distance, a belt of mountains stands tall. In the foreground, a spectator is taking in the majestic scenery of steep mountains and sea while inside a pavilion. Another spectator is walking down the mountain with a cane and is savoring the scenery while being awed by the height. This painting was made in 1818, when Zhang Yin's technique reached maturity, and is very representative for its blending of vintage and contemporary techniques, and unique brushwork.

Provenance: Collection of Dr. Schmitt. Dr. Schmitt is a professor emeritus of archeology from University of Minnesota. He was a consultant for several museums in the Midwest US.

Condition: Minor staining and loss to paint, small repair to lower left side, damage to right side.

張崟 山水樓閣立軸"

款識：黃山雲海 張崟仿趙歐波於，於我亦有餘齋時戊寅孟冬。鈐印：張崟之印（朱白）；夕庵（朱白）張崟（1761年—1829年），清代畫家。字寶厓，號夕庵、夕道人，又號樵山居士、觀白居士等。本幅作品佈局巧妙，通過強烈的虛實對比，以及平遠、高遠、深遠的交叉伸展，營造出空間感，達到咫尺千里的效果。畫面遠處山峯迭起，中部亭臺中有一看客正觀賞着周圍的奇峯雲海，寶塔樓閣。近景一過客執杖正下山而來，頭向山崖邊微微側首，望向遠方，似被黃山美景所折服，不捨此美景，又懼山石之高。畫面遠中近景以雲海相連，近精遠虛，構圖完整，彰顯畫家之繪畫實力。此畫作於1818年，正值張崟藝術作品的成熟期，其技法融古開今，用筆獨具風格，極富代表性。
