[Brathwait (Richard)] Novissima Tuba: Libellus, in sex dialogos apprimè Christianos, digestus, first edition, title with woodcut ornament and border, woodcut initials, head- and tail-pieces, with E5 imprimatur f. but lacking initial and final blanks, imprimatur f. with short tear to margin, a few ff. closely shaved at head, affecting headlines, some light damp-staining to head, ink ownership inscription to verso of dedication f., ink scribblings to title, dedication f. and blank margins and leaf versos, later green roan, spine chipped at head, scuffing and wear to covers, [STC 3575], 12mo, Felix Kyngston, 1632.
⁂ A rare eschatological work by Brathwait, we can trace no copy at auction. Novissima Tuba ran to another Latin edition the following year and an English edition in 1635. All editions are rare with only the English edition appearing at auction in the last 70 years (John Nicholson, 5th March, 2003, £1,700).
Provenance: Isaac Curtiss (ink ownership inscription dated 1689).
