Description
NO RESERVE Evelyn (Mary) The Ladies Dressing-Room Unlock'd, And her Toilette Spread. Together With the Fop-Dictionary, and a rare and incomparable receipt to make pig, or puppidog-water for the face, title a little soiled, a few leaves shaved at head with loss to headlines or pagination, occasional ink staining, more extensively to C4 with some words obscured and some resultant holing, 20th century roan-backed cloth, [Keynes 102; Wing E3520], small 4to, for Joseph Wild, 1700.
⁂ Mary Evelyn (1665-1685) was the daughter of John Evelyn and died of smallpox at the age of 19. The Ladies Dressing-Room Unlock'd is a satire on the style and speech of the Francophile fashion in vogue at the time. Mary died 5 years before publication, and that task was finally completed by her father, who also probably wrote the preface. First published in 1690, this imprint is rare with only the BL copy listed on ESTC.
