Japanese woodblock print. Artist: Kitagawa Utamaro.
Subject: Act II of the Chushingura. A young man is leaning on the step of a house and has deposited a letter in a fubako in front of a kneeling girl whose mother stands beside her.
Publisher Eijudo.
Date: c. 1800.
Size: Oban design measures 10.25" x 15.25".
Condition: Excellent impression, some fading to color, minor foxing/light wear. Some light paper on verso edges from matting (not damaging to print).
Provenance: Sold in Sotheby's sale 6/4/62 and again at Sotheby's 5/31/78
