Description
Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Manteno culture, ca. 1000 CE. A hand-carved stone figure depicting a nude woman kneeling atop folded legs. The woman rests both hands atop her knees, leans slightly forward, and has a pair of large breasts beneath her shoulders. Her raised head features almond-shaped eyes, a bulbous nose, full lips, and spool-adorned ears, all beneath a cylindrical cap that rests low on her forehead. Size: 6.25" W x 6.625" H (15.9 cm x 16.8 cm)
Provenance: private Burlington, Vermont, USA collection, acquired via descent in 1978, and imported into the US prior to 1970
