Monumental Bust of Abraham Lincoln, 1939

inscribed With Malice Toward None, With Charity For All along front of base and signed Jos Kapfenberger on the back of Lincoln's right shoulder, foundry mark BEDI-RASSY FOUNDRY NY.
Height 29 x width 30 x depth 16 inches.
German sculptor Professor Joseph Kapfenberger (1882-1974) completed the work in 1939, several years after emigrating to New York. It was offered by artist to the Lincoln Museum in Fort Wayne in 1944 (that museum closed in 2008). Purportedly, the artist's wife took the bust back to Germany with her after his death, and it remained in the family until 2016.
