(viii), 166, (2) (ads) pp. Illustrated with a hand-colored engraved frontispiece and three hand-colored engraved plates by John Leech, and four in-text engravings by W.J. Linton after Leech. Original unsophisticated first issue brown cloth-covered boards, stamped in blind and in gilt (corresponding with Todd's first impression, first state: 14-15 mm spacing between gilt and blind stamping, and unbroken "D" in "Dickens"), cocked, splitting along upper and lower front and rear joints, spine ends worn, scattered soiling to boards; all edges gilt; yellow endpapers; front hinge worn; old gift inscription at head of half-title; scattered light spotting to text.
