Description
The New York Dolls were without a doubt one of the most important bands in the history of punk rock. Often referred to as "proto-punk" their musical style helped to inspire the whole New York City punk rock scene of the 1970s. Their music and unique aesthetic of spandex platform boots and in the case of frontman David Johansen high heels inspired bands and musicians for years to come. One of the band's the New York Dolls inspired was Kiss. This original concert poster from June of 1974 advertises Kiss opening for the New York Dolls at the I.M.A. Auditorium in Flint Michigan. Kiss had released their self-titled debut album only a few months earlier making this show a very early one in their career and the New York Dolls had released their second album Too Much Too Soon the month before. This is a great piece of history for both of these legendary bands!
