One of Well’s best works and basis for the 1977 film starring Burt Lancaster and the 1996 film starring Marlon Brando. First issue with a separate ad leaf for The Time Machine and 32 other ad pages in the back; also publisher's monogram blind-stamped on the lower rear cover. After Time Machine ad leaf, the first ad page begins with The Manxman by Hall Caine and ends with Out of Due Season by Adeline Sergeant. There are minor textual variations between British and American editions. Currey 520.

Covers somewhat soiled, rubbed, corners bumped, spine slanted; hinge splitting, paper repair to front free endpaper, some soiling especially to front matter, very good.
