Waugh (Evelyn) Helena, first edition, signed presentation inscription from the author "For Hugh Burnett, Souvenir of Stinchcombe, August 18th, Feast of St. Helena from Evelyn Waugh" to endpaper, light browning to half-title, the odd spot, original cloth, spine dulled, some light rubbing, dust-jacket, paper reinforcement to head and foot verso, ink lettering to foot of upper flap, faint surface soiling, light rubbing to extremities, light creasing to head, near-fine otherwise, original Daily Mail Book of the Month wraparound band (spine browned), 8vo, 1950.

⁂ An excellent association copy of Waugh's favourite of his own books. David Burnett (1924-2011) was a television and radio producer who interviewed Waugh as part of his Personal Call radio series in 1953. The interview took place at Waugh's home at Stinchcombe, Gloucestershire. Burnett would later recall that "before we left he asked if we would accept a signed copy of one of his books. I asked for the one he liked best - and he presented me with 'Helena'".
