Description
5th - 11th Centuries AD, Roman - Early Byzantine artifact, pilgrim or crusader's ring. Rounded bezel with an incised diamond motif depicting a stylized cross on radial ground, suggesting light. Men's size 10 - 10 1/4. In good, wearable condition with nice patina. The term Byzantine originated in the 19th Century. Until then, Eastern Mediterranean cultures were referred to as "Roman" through the Medieval period. This ring was most likely worn by a man traveling to the Holy Land before the time of Islamic interference.
