Description
Figures conversing by a cottage gate signed or inscribed and dated 'G Morland/ 1792' (lower right) oil on canvas 29.5 x 41cm
The painting is executed in oil on a canvas support which appears to be lined. The tacking edges are coming loose from the tacks and the canvas tension is poor. There is a thick layer of dirt and mould on the reverse. The paint layers are generally stable, although there are a few scattered losses. The varnish is thick and glossy with a layer of dust across the surface. 47 x 58cm framed
