Description

Large antique bronze or brass lion doorknocker exquisitely detailed in the victorian taste. Rescued from an old vinyard door in sonoma, california... That was (unfortunately) demolished in the 1950's. Timeless architectural design reminiscent of a bygone era. Classic lion head with crisp detailed casting of mane and oh those piercing eyes. Weighty stylized knocker arm with triple baluster finger grip. And original stepped round strike plate. A most spectacular aged green oxidized patina on nutmeg bronze surface. Note solid pivot rod on reverse side that attests to age and quality of craftsmanship. And sets this apart from skimpy modern reproductions of this classic doorknocker. A warm mellowed patina that only comes with true age and use. And a knock loud enough to awaken the spirits of ages past.
