Typed on watermarked bifold stationery with "The White House / Washington" letterhead embossed on the first page. The remaining pages are blank. Expected wear including flattened folds and a few smudges. Else crisp, clean, and near fine. 7" x 9."
President Coolidge wrote Edward Nash Hurley (1864-1933), former Wilson Administration official, in part: "Please accept my hearty thanks for your kind note of the twenty-second. I appreciate your good wishes most deeply and cordially reciprocate them…"
Edward N. Hurley, a Chicago entrepreneur with an engineering background, had become increasingly involved in politics during the Wilson administration. Hurley served as Chairman of the Federal Trade Commission from July 1916 to January 1917. Also from 1917, Hurley sat on the War Trade Board, which controlled access to wartime U.S. shipping. Hurley was elected one of seven members of the Red Cross War Council in May 1917, and in late July 1917, Hurley would be confirmed as Chairman of the U.S. Shipping Board. Hurley did not hold any comparable positions in the Coolidge Administration.
