Description
A 3rd person autograph note signed by William Heath (1737-1814), the Revolutionary War commander, as "Major General Heath[s]" on the first line. N.d., n.p. On laid paper, with the first page hinged at bottom to the address panel tipped within a cream mount. Heath has also inscribed 27 words in his hand, comprising the remainder of the note as well as the integral address panel. A docket is found on the inner page and there are remnants of a red wax seal on the address panel. Expected wear including light even toning and flattened folds, else near fine. The document, sight size measuring 6.5" x 3.875," is partly tipped into a larger cream mount measuring 8.625" x 5.625."

William Heath became active in the Suffolk County militia in the years preceding the Revolutionary War, eventually being appointed Colonel by 1770. His military experience was recognized by Massachusetts government commissions. Heath's participation at the Battles of Lexington and Concord (April 1775), as well as the Siege of Boston (April 1775-March 1776) earned him a promotion to the rank of Brigadier General in the Continental Army; Heath eventually became a Major General. He commanded Patriot forces at the Battles of Long Island (August 1776), Harlem Heights (September 1776), and White Plains (October 1776).
