A BLUE-GREEN 'WATER' JADEITE SNUFF BOTTLE
Possibly imperial, attributed to the Palace Workshops, 1750-1800
Of flattened, rounded form with a cylindrical neck, and with an oval foot, the translucent stone superbly hollowed, of blue tone with flecks of apple-green throughout; stopper.

Jade is associated with purity of spirit and clarity of thought. Connoisseurs learn to appreciate the characteristics of color, brilliance, luster and saturation. This method of judging jade is not limited to emerald-green jadeite but also to white nephrite and any of the range of colors that jade appears in. A blue jadeite bottle such as this encapsulates these features and is typically known as 'water' jade because of it level of 'saturation.'

Condition
More of a flattened spade shape than the illustration suggests. A most attractive semi-translucent stone with attractive pale moss-green markings. Very good condition.
