The burlwood box, Qing dynasty
The well-figured hongmu box cover with slightly rounded top edges, and the corners mounted with ruyi-shaped thin metal corner mounts, a simple band of molding to the edge of the box and cover, the ruyi-shaped lock-plate at the center and edge plates at the corners; together with a larger burlwood box of dark tone with thicker metal ruyi cloud-lappets at the corners and a circular lock-plate.
Hongmu box: approx. 2 5 1/16 x 12in (5.8 x 30.5cm.); burlwood box: 5 x 13 3/4in (12.7 x 35cm) (2).
