A BLUE AND WHITE PORCELAIN 'DRAGON' DISH
Jiaqing mark and of the period
Thinly molded with a gently flared rim to the wide, curving well-painted in vibrant cobalt blue with a roundel of a five-clawed dragon pursuing a precious pearl amid flames and the low exterior walls encircled by two other dragons in the same pursuit, the underside within the foot ring displaying the six-character mark in seal script.
6 5/8in (16.7cm) diam.

Dishes decorated with underglaze blue dragons are of a standard type that repeats from the Qianlong reign through the end of Qing dynasty, with some variations of design and quality.
Compare the Qianlong marked blue-and-white 'dragon' dish of this form with very similar decoration and measurements, from the Peggy N. and Roger G. Gerry Collection and now in the Brooklyn Museum, illustrated on the museum's website, accession number 2004.28.289.
Compare also the dish of the same design with Guangxu mark included in this sale, lot 337.
