Struck, Hermann (German/Israeli, 1876-1944), Portrait of Dr. Theodor Herzl, c.1903, etching on paper, signed and inscribed by Struck lower left (For Mr. Maurice Neaman), also signed and dated in the plate, image 17.5 x 13.5 inches, full sheet 23 x 19 inches. Additionally inscribed by the former owners, Pittsburgh banker and philanthropist Sol Rosenbloom and his wife Celia, to the lower right. The inscription is in memory of their five-month visit to Israel in 1922 on behalf of Louis Brandeis and Julian Mack of the Palestine Development Council. Sol and Celia's son, Charles Rosenbloom, was an avid art collector and trustee of the Carnegie Museum, Pittsburgh. According to the 1919 American Jewish Year Book, Rosenbloom was the President of the Hebrew Institute of Pittsburgh and Neaman was the Secretary. A wonderful piece of Zionist art, with a nice Pittsburgh provenance.
