Description
American Civil War silvered brass name stencil belonging to Private Stephen A. Miller, of Company G, 57th Indiana Infantry. Stencil presents naming "S.A. MILLER, Co. G, 57th Regt. Ind. Vol." and measures 1.25" x 3" and exhibits an uncleaned patina and wear. Stephen A. Miller enlisted and was mustered into Company G, of the 57th Indiana Infantry regiment on November 18, 1861. He reenlisted on January 1, 1864 and was wounded in battle, dying from those wounds on July 5, 1864 at Chattanooga, Tennessee. He is buried in the Chattanooga National Cemetery, Chattanooga, Tennessee. Provenance: Gary Wolfer collection.
