Description
Ca. 1963. Condition original as shown. Here is the brief (and tragic) bio: Alfred, born April 12, 1957, was typically called by his middle name, Kee. He was the son of Carl Gorman and Mary Wilson. Before Kee's early death, he showed great promise as an artist like his father and his half brother, R.C. Gorman, winning numerous awards by the time he was 6 years old. At the age of 8, in 1965, he received a personal, handwritten letter from John Manchester, the owner of the Manchester Gallery in Taos, NM. It read, in part: "Dear Kee: Yesterday I sold two of your paintings: Watermelons and The Dragon. They came to $65.00. The Gallery has taken out 1/3 commission of $21.67 and encloses a check for you of the balance of $43.33.When are you going to paint some more for us?....Let me hear if you are doing some more good painting....."Sadly, Kee's great promise could not be fulfilled as he died in an automobile accident in July, 1966. This painting is the one sold at the gallery referenced in the letter.
