A LACQUER POEM CARD BOX
Meiji (1868-1912) or Taisho (1912-1926) era, circa 1910
The shallow rectangular box slightly concave, lacquered in gold takamaki-e and gold, silver, and red togidashi maki-e with embellishments of hirame on a glossy roiro-nuri ground, the exterior decorated with a shrine bell on a rope and the interior with a torii gate partially obscured by cryptomeria trees, the edges finished in fundame
With a wood tomobako storage box inscribed Maki-e tanzakubako

Condition
Including, but not limited to the following:
There are very fine hairline lacquer cracks across two of the corners on the underside of the cover on the fundame edges (2mm each approx.) There is some minor surface wear overall and associated minor losses tot he gold on the fundame edges at the exterior corners and on the upper surface of the fundame corners of the box. There is one tiny surface lacquer bruise on the upper surface of the cover in the hirame to the left of the rope (1mm approx.) Wear to the underside.
