A rare hanging scroll painting in ink and light color of the famous lake located on the outskirts of China's Southern Song capital of Hangzhou, featuring the iconic arched footbridges, Chan (Zen) temples and other structures on small islands, boats on the water, human figures occupied with various activities throughout the landscape, leafless trees and distant mountains, all with a light coating of snow, carefully depicted with minute brush strokes, signed Kajō-hsa and sealed Nagahama Hisa in
Currently matted and mounted in a conservation glass-glazed frame with partial textile mounting remaining

Nagahama Hisatsugu, also known by the family name of Fujiwara and the artist name Kajō, among others, was born in Kyoto. He was a man of letters who is recorded as being versed in the traditional arts and an author on various subjects, though most of his writings were burned in fires during the Meiji era.
