Description
72"L x 48"H x 24"D 1790-1820, important and rare sideboard with highly figured veneers throughout. Most likely made by a London trained cabinet maker who was familiar with the most elevated English Regency designs of the period to 1811-1815, Which fits neatly into the period that the sideboard was made. This theory will explain the six turned legs rather than the square tapered legs with ankle banding is normally found on side boards from this region. The very fine and costly Rosewood or Kingswood cross banding on the drawers are set at an obtuse angle, rather than a perpendicular one, which was the norm for most Neoclassical cabinet makers working in New York. Most interesting is the lightly colored veneers on the drawer fronts which are offset by other inlays.Provenance : Acquired from the estate of William and Helen Goldsbourough of San Francisco. The piece was reported to be a family piece handed down for generations. Helen is the great granddaughter of Frank Hereth. Mr. Hereth was the cofounder of Searle G.D. & Company. Prior to this Mr Hereth was the chief chemist of Eli Lily & Company in the 1800s.72"L x 48"H x 24"D
