THREE RARE JAPANESE WOODBLOCK PRINT BOOKS, EHON 1737 TO MID C19TH. A Japanese Woodblock Print Book with Illustrations of Noh Theater, Music, etc. Issued in Genbun (__) 2 (1737), Osaka. (23 x 6.5cm). Traditional Japanese stitched stab binding. Printed card covers, discoloured, worn. 33 leaves, 14 illustrations, including several inset within the text. Fragile, some staining, wear, binding firm. Chushingura Text. With full page ukiyo-e woodblock colour print to front. (18.5 x 12cm). 15 leaves of calligraphic woodblock text. Paper covers. Stitch binding. Late C18th, early C19th. The Ch_shingura is any fictionalised account of the story of the Forty-seven R_nin, or the Treasury of Loyal Retainers, dating to the historical 1702 Ak_ incident, which saw the death by seppuku of 46 r_nin. Light wear, an unmarked copy, binding firm. Pure Land Buddhism. A 19th C. Japanese woodblock print book, illustrations of Gods, Monks and Demons. Traditional Japanese stitched stab binding. 3rd printing, Meiji 26th year, Tokyo 1894. (16 x 11.5cm). Thin paper covers, somewhat fragile and worn. 50 leaves of woodblock printed Japanese calligraphic script, with 9 full page woodblock illustrations. internally very good, bar some minor staining. (3)
