Description
1869 Jules Verne Five Weeks in Balloon Adventure Voyages Illustrated 80 Days
“Reality provides us with facts so romantic that imagination itself could add nothing to them.”
― Jules Verne
Jules Vernes adventure novels are some of the most popular and famous works of literature of all time. Known mostly for his works of science fiction, Voyages Extraordinaires was Vernes largest collection of fantasy novels and stories. Perhaps his most famous work of all was none other than Around the World in 80 Days. This work of this masterpiece developed almost directly from Vernes early work entitled Five Weeks in a Balloon – the work that first brought Verne his popularity.
Five Weeks gives glimpses of what it would be like to explore in Africa, which was a highly foreign concept to European explorers at the time.
This rare 1869 American edition was published by Hurst, taken from the original Appleton printing. Translated into English by William Lackland, this edition is from the first full illustrated edition.
