Description:
Lithograph poster. 54.3x36.5 cm (21½x14½").
The only black & white poster among the seven placards Will H. Bradley produced for The Chap-Book. Will H. Bradley (1868-1962) was an American illustrator who imported European and Japanese styles for use in American magazines – here the British influence of Aubrey Beardsley, Walter Crane and the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood are apparent. The Chap-Book was a magazine published in Cambridge, MA and Chicago, IL from 1894-1898, dedicated to "all that is most modern and aggressive in the Young Man's literature," and introduced little known writers and poets of the era, such as Yeats, Henry James, Ibsen, H.G. Wells, and Rimbaud.
Condition
Chips and tears in margins, more pronounced at lower left corner, sheet toned; about very good.
