Provenance: The collection of artist Robert Harrison, Alamo Heights, Texas
Carl J. Smith paints the Texas plains with a subtlety of color and atmosphere reflective of that regions' mysterious and romantic image. Smith has spent most of his career based in Canyon, Texas and has traveled the state's high plains, depicting in oils the scenery he encounters. He has also served as an art teacher at the secondary level, has been exhibited in several high-profile museum shows, and his work has been collected by President Lyndon B. Johnson, Texas Governor John Connally, and the King Ranch.
