Description
The lot features a beaded and painted sheath and trade tacked harness leather belt dating to the 19th Century from the Crow Indians. The harness saddle leather belt has brass trade tack design, a traditional pattern from other Northern Plains tribes such as the Crow and Blackfeet of Montana. The original tie straps are still attached, of Indian tanned hide. The beaded sheath is made of thinner cut o dyed harness leather with typical Crow pattern beadwork of the late 19th Century done in pastel colors of period correct 1800’s glass trade seed bead beadwork. The beadwork shows colors of chalk white, Cheyenne pink, cobalt, greasy sky padre light blue, semi-transparent green, greasy yellow. The old trade knife has a hickory handle and typical trade knife large blade. Provenance: From the Tom Hardy collection of Indianapolis, IN. Belt measures 51 inches in length by 3 inches wide. The sheath measures 11 inches long by 4 inches wide and the trade knife is 11 ½ inches in length.
