Signed and dated "Motta 69" l.c., identified on a presentation plaque, with a stamp from Galerie Rio de la Plata, Montevideo, Uruguay, on the stretcher. Oil on canvas, 21 x 19 in. (53 x 48 cm), framed. (30 x 27 1/2 in. framed) Condition: Has some Surface grime. BIOGRAPHY Born in Salto (Uruguay) in 1922. Settled in Minas. Studied with Wilson Amaral at Taller Amigos del Arte of Minas, where teaching since 1960. Take part with his works since 1955 in all annual plastical art exhibitions fulfilled in Amigos del Arte in Minas City. Exhibe at next Interior Plastical Arts Contests where acquired his works: 1956- I Interior Plastical Arts Contest, obtain Mention (Uruguay). 1958- III Interior Plastical Arts Contest, RÃo Negro Departamental Council Mention (Uruguay). 1959- IV Interior Plastical Arts Contest, U.T.E. Special Prize (Uruguay). 1962- VI Interior Plastical Arts Contest, Acquisition Prize by José MarÃa Cerdeiras Collection. 1963- VII Interior Plastical Arts Contest, Industrial and Commercial Bank of San José Acquisition Prize (Uruguay). 1964- VIII Interior Plastical Arts Contest, Acquisition Prize (Uruguay). In annual art events of the National Fine Arts Commission stand out next distinctions: 1959- Francisco Bauzer Prize, Bronze Medal (Uruguay). 1962- Republic of Uruguay Bank Prize, Bronze Medal (Uruguay). 1963- French Embassy in Montevideo Prize (Uruguay). 1964- Italian Embassy in Montevideo Prize, Bronze Medal (Uruguay). Take part at collective exhibitions fulfilled by the National Fine Arts Commission in 1960 and 1961: “Algunas Expresiones de la plástica actual”, “Doce artistas uruguayos contemporáneos”, “Desde Blanes a nuestros dÃas”. In Montevideo Municipal Council Contest, take part in exhibitions of 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1961 and 1962, where the Municipal Fine Arts Juan Manuel Blanes Museum acquired works for his heritage (Uruguay). Realized several exhibtions in Montevideo, Punta del Este, Piriápolis, Salto, etc (Uruguay). In 1968 integrate the artists staff of RÃo de la Plata gallery; his works were exhibed in United States of America; the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) acquired one work in 1974 for his heritage; exhibed at the "Uruguayan Painting Collective Exhibition" in Israel, sponsored by Uruguayan Embassy in Israel; realized exhibitions in Canada, Venezuela, his works disseminated in Spain specially by the Semperé Collection; in England by Moraskie Collection, in Brazil bu Landmann Collection and Hait gallery (New Jersey, USA) acquired several works for an exhibition in Germany in 1974. Exhibed in Montevideo at the exhibition of VI Latin American Group Psychotherapy Congress of 1970 (Uruguay). His works are in private collections of Uruguay, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, Panama, Germany, USA, Greece, France, Canada and Spain. Realized several murals like "Degrandi" Building of Minas City (Uruguay) in Venicean Mosaic in 1964. Was selected jury of the Republic of Uruguay Prize for the "Blanes Prize" in 1966. Exhibitions: Since 1955 to 1959 at the Departamental Museum of San José (Uruguay), at Departamental Council of Rocha (Uruguay), at Centro Paz y Unión of Maldonado (Uruguay) and at Andreoletti gallery (Uruguay). In 1959 was selected and represented Uruguay at the 1st International Exhibition of the Modern Art Museum of Punta del Este (Uruguay), later exhibe at Asociación Cristiana de Jóvenes of Piriápolis (Maldonado, Uruguay), since 1960 to 1963 exhibe at Felman gallery (Córdoba, Argentina), at Young City (Uruguay), at Asociación Magisterial of Flores (Uruguay), at San MartÃn gallery of Buenos Aires (Argentina) and later in Andreoletti gallery (Uruguay). Selected to the Young Biennial of Paris (France) in 1963. Exhibe at Cine Club Canelones (Uruguay). In 1970 realized an exhibition of drawings and paintings at CEDAS (Uruguay). In 1970, at Urugayan Artists Exhibition at 6th Group Psychotherapy Congress of Montevideo (Uruguay), in 1971 painting exhibition in Trinidad, Flores, Juan Lacaze and Montevideo at RÃo de la Plata gallery. 1972-1975 Permanent Exhibition at RÃo de la Plata gallery (Uruguay) and collective exhibitions in Salto and Punta del Este (Uruguay) Bibliography: - “Panorama actual de la Pintura Uruguaya Contemporánea”, Arch.
