The Ardbeg Auriverdes was released in 2014 for the 'Ardbeg Day' - an annual open day which coincides with the Feis Ile festival on Islay.
In the year 2014, the FIFA Football World Cup was hosted in Brazil. Auriverdes is a Portuguese term created by the combination of 'auri', 'gold' and 'verde', 'green'. The word is commonly used in reference to the Brazilian national flag, and as a nickname for many of their sports teams on account of their uniforms. Coincidentally, these are also the brand colours of Ardbeg distillery.
The incredibly rare gold bottle, was never released for the retail market. It was only given to journalists and distillery ambassadors before the Ardbeg Auriverdes release at the end of May 2014 to the public.
