Description

Beautiful large hand colored lithography featuring the Breese, Kneeland & Co. / New York Locomotive Works 4-4-0 steam locomotive Young America. The frame measures 37 1/4" x 22 1/2", the visible image measures 30 1/4" x 15 1/4". The names J.S. Breese, C, Kneeland Jr., W.G. Hamilton, and E.P. Gould are printed at the bottom of the lithograph. These four men were the owners of the New York Locomotive Works. The litho has some light staining in both the upper left and right corners. On the reverse is a copied image of this locomotive which shows the locomotive as part of a larger builders image. Studying the litho we ca see some of the border that matches the larger image on the reverse. This was possibly part of a larger builders lithography at one time. Regardless, it is a beautiful image of a scarce locomotive.
