THE FORD MUSTANG

Ford created a new class of car almost overnight with the introduction of the Mustang sports coupe part way through the 1964 season, catching the rest of the US auto industry off guard. Brainchild of Lee Iacocca, the Mustang is one of the most remarkable automotive success stories of modern times and arguably the pinnacle of his long career with Ford. Aimed at the affluent young, for whom a car was as much a lifestyle statement as means of transport, the Mustang succeeded brilliantly. Mustangs could be ordered in specifications ranging from six-cylinder 'economy' to V8-powered luxury, while customers could choose from an extensive range of factory options, with the result that seldom are two Mustangs identical.

THE MOTORCAR OFFERED

This striking 1966 Mustang Fastback was originally built at the San Jose, California, Ford plant and originally powered by the performance-oriented, A-code 289ci V8 with a four-barrel carburetor. A replacement trim tag has been fitted to the car, showing Body 63B - Two-door fastback, Color 4 - Silver Frost exterior finish, Trim 65 - Red, Date 11J - September 11 build date, DSO 71 - Los Angeles, California, district sales office, Axle 1 - 3.00:1 standard differential, Trans 5 - Four-speed manual transmission.

Today this this Mustang Fastback has been professionally restored and upgraded, and is equipped with a replacement crate Ford 347ci Stroker V8 engine with World Products cast-iron cylinder heads, stainless-steel valves, a Schneider Racing Camsroller camshaft, a Holley 4-barrel carburetor, ribbed aluminum valve covers, a Mallory distributor, and a stainless-steel dual exhaust system. Additional chassis supports have been added to compensate for the larger motor. The concours quality restoration and sympathetic resto-modification of this original A-Code Fastback Mustang was carried out to a very high standard; not too much, not too little, but just enough to enjoy around town, on back roads and for highway cruising.

This is an opportunity to purchase an iconic Fastback Mustang with a tasteful flair, accompanied by a comprehensive service and restoration file.
