signed in Cyrillic, dated, impressed with Woerffel foundry mark, and inscribed 3 on base
LOT NOTES
Ilya Ginzburg was born in Grodno and studied under the noted sculptor M.M. Antokolsky in St. Petersburg from 1871-8, and later at the Imperial Academy of Arts. Close to the "Peredvizhniki" [Wanderers] group of artists, he produced busts of numerous artists, writers, and musicians, including Kramskoi, Aivasovsky, Tolstoy, and Rubinshtein.
