Alfred Heber Hutty (NY/SC, 1877-1954), Old St. Michael's. Charleston, 1928, Etching, pencil signed lower right, depicting Old St. Michaels Church, Charleston, SC, with artist biography info and handwritten inscription on verso, matted and framed. Frame size: 17 1/4 in. x 15 1/4 in.Alfred Heber Hutty was an American painter and one of the leaders of the Charleston Renaissance. Hutty created impressionist landscapes, detailed drawings and prints of Low Country life. In his lifetime Hutty exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, the National Academy of Design, and the American Watercolor Society. He also painted some murals around Charleston. HuttyÕs work is held in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Greenville County Museum of Art, the Cleveland Museum of Art, and the South Carolina State Museum in Columbia.
