Description
(Philip II, King of France.) N.p. 1218. Manuscript indenture, ink on vellum, 10" x 7.25", penned by a scribe in old French, being a receipt given by Hugue, Count of Rethel, and his wife, Felice, for the right of stationing their household in St. Agnan, where they are to receive a quantity of hay and oats from the residents. A later summary of the document is written upper right (which is transcribed and typed on to a leaf accompanying the document along with the old seller's catalogue description.) * Provenance: Consignor states: This item was purchased from the estate of an American collector who purchased regularly from Bernard Rosenthal (longtime dealer of early books and manuscripts, ABAA member.)
