Description
Schongauer, Martin (1450–1491, German.) Virgin and Child in Courtyard. Trimmed within platemarks. Printed on laid paper, measured from thread-lines (or neatlines) 161mm x 118mm. Back-lighting reveals a partial watermark only (see photos), horizontal chain lines spaced approximately 28mm apart (with some slight variation.) Due to the partial watermark, abundant caution dictates that we leave the dating/details of this engraving to the informed bidder, and we offer this piece as-is, as shown in photos. This engraving was found among a small collection of other early engravings, several of which were quite valuable (including several Rembrandt proofs and similar.)
Condition
Light soiling to corners and surface abrasions to corners at rear (from having been tipped to a support sheet and then removed.) Refer to photos.
