GIUSEPPE BESSI (ITALIAN, 1857-1922) CARVED MARBLE AND ALABASTER BUST OF A WOMAN, titled on base front "MIGNON", having inset head, hexagonal platform base, signed on the reverse "Prof. G. Bessi". Fourth quarter 19th/early 20th century. 9 5/8" HOA.
Catalogue note: Mignon was a heroine in an 1866 opera by Ambroise Thomas. She was kidnapped by Gypsies as a child and eventually reunited with her father.
