Description
Near East, Palestine / Israel, Jerusalem, ca. 1936 CE. A beautiful pair of matching sterling silver bowls engraved with a dedication on the base and arabesque motifs. The dedication reads "E.E.P. & E.H.P. / FROM / THE STAFF / JERUSALEM / 1936." These were presented to the American ambassador and his wife, Ely Eliot and Eno Ham Palmer, along with a letter of appreciation from President Truman. Palmer's period of appointment to the post was from 1933 to 1935. Note that these bowls were dedicated the year that the 1936-1939 Arab revolt in Palestine began - which was primarily sparked by British Colonial rule.
