Description

Joseph James Akston (American, 1898-1983). An estate collection with a set of two (2) bronze bookend sculptures. Modernist figural works depicting abstract reclining allegorical sphinx style figures. No apparent signature. Presented on rectangular marble bases, each stamped to underside MADE IN ITALY. Acquired from the artist's estate.

Dimensions: 4 X 7.5 X 3 in.

Condition: Good to fair condition, having normal surface wear, with evidence of verdigris and patina; prior restoration to figures on both bases, with one base having break that has been repaired. Estate fresh to the market.
