Porcelain Two Piece circular covered box with hand painted scene of prunus tree with blossoming flowers and fruit, four character mark to bottom made during the period of Emperor Yuan Shikai (90 day King 1915-1916) Emperor Yuan Shikai rose to power at the end of Qing Dynasty as a Military and Government official who ended the Qing Dynasty rule in 1912 after some attempts to save it. This turbulent period ushered in the Republic of China with Yuan as it's first president before eventually for only 83 days crowning himself as Hongxian Emperor before he eventually abdicated due to mounting revolts. 8 1/2" W x 4 1/2" H including lid
Provenance: Wong collection, Los Angeles, CA, US, Mr. Wong was a Hong Kong government translator and court interpreter and amassed his collection in Hong Kong during the mid-1900's-1978. This piece includes the original COA or Hong Kong Certificate of Antiquity and is photographed and dated 16th September 1975.
