Important Archive of Pathé 28mm Films, 1910-14
Comprising over 240 film titles of 28mm Pathé flame-retardant triacetate film in 213 modern, gold-colored metal cans for 120 m of film. A separate ten-page pdf (available upon request), carries a list of all the titles, accessories and technical details along with an assessment of the condition and originality. The subject matter and the scope of the titles in this collection are reminiscent of today’s European "Arte" program on television network: faraway countries, science, educational films, comedies, illusions and other special effects in the new film medium, the surreal, science fiction (including a trip to the moon), animal films and cartoons. Approximately 6 % of the estimated 4,000 titles in the Pathé program of the period up to 1914 are available, a good basis for showing the early history of cinema with original films. Especially significant are the films by Max Linder (real name Gabriel-Maximilien Leuvielle), the first international filmstar and director of his own films of this era (with corresponding fees). Linder is represented with at least 6 of the films. (Charlie Chaplin once dedicated a photograph to Linder: "To the professor, from his disciple"). Of the more than 260 rolls of film, only two show the onset of acetic acid syndrome, all the others are in projectable condition. An excellent opportunity for film collections to acquire one of the rarest of all early genres, the films of the 28 mm Pathé era, today mostly lost or forgotten. Before World War I, Pathé sold more films in the United States than all the American producers combined.

Vorhanden sind etwa 240 Filmtitel des schwerentflammbaren 28mm-Triacetatfilms von Pathé in 213 modernen, goldfarbenen Metalldosen für 120 m Film sowie 21 Filme ohne Titel. Alle Titel und weiteres Zubehör sind im auf Anfrage erhältlichen 10-seitigen PDF aufgeführt, nebst technischen Details zur Originalitätsfrage. Die Themenvielfalt dieser Sammlung erinnert an das heutige Arte-Programm des Fernsehens: ferne Länder, Wissenschaft, Lehrfilme, Komödien, Erprobungen zur Illusionsvielfalt des neuen Mediums Film etwa bei Revuen oder der Illusionsartistik, Surreales, Science-Fiction mit einer Fahrt zum Mond, Tierfilme und Zeichentrick. Von geschätzten 4000 Titeln des Pathé-Programms dieser Zeit bis 1914 liegen immerhin ca. 6 % vor, ein guter Grundstock für die Frühgeschichte des Kinos mit Original-Filmen. Herausragend sind Filme von Max Linder, dem ersten internationalen Filmstar und Regisseur seiner eigenen Filme dieser Epoche (mit entsprechenden Gagen), er ist mit mindestens 6 Filmen vertreten. Charlie Chaplin schrieb einst auf ein Photo für Linder: "To the professor, from his disciple. - Von den über 260 Filmrollen weisen nur zwei Rollen ein anfangendes Essigsäuresyndrom auf, alle anderen sind in projektionsfähigem Zustand. Eine hervorragende Gelegenheit für Filmsammlungen, sich in der seltensten aller Filmgattungen, den heute meist vergessenen oder verschollenen Filmen der 28mm-Pathé-Ära zu komplettieren. Pathé verkaufte vor dem Ersten Weltkrieg mehr Filme in die USA, als alle amerikanischen Produzenten zusammen herstellten.
