3 volumes. Folio (340 x 222 mm). Engraved frontispiece in volume III, 53 (of 63?) engraved maps, plans and plates (some folding or double-page). Rebacked contemporary paneled calf. Covers chipped, especially at corners, ink ownership inscriptions on title pages, folding map at head of volume I torn with significant loss, some plates repaired, a few plates trimmed with losses, some ink marginalia, browning and spotting, a few rust holes, edge chipping with some paper repairs to corners.
FIRST EDITION. Although the author was French, no French edition was published until 1727. The later third volume includes a treatise on European orders of knighthood, in addition to the history and geography of Prussia, Poland and Russia. A variety of engravers contributed to the plates, including William Hogarth. Cox I, 77-78; ESTC T142580; Hamilton Palace II, 1479.
