Description
The Express Locomotive 2350 appeared in the Georges Carette 1911 catalog listed as the 'Latest design (an original scale model)' which is exactly what it is and considered by many as the most realistically rendered American steam profile toy locomotive ever made. Beautiful hand enameling and attention to detail make this one of the most sought after pre-World War I toy locomotives. It has complex linkage and steam valve controls together with an impressive and functional tender with water reservoir to feed engine. Functional details include a bell chain threaded past steam dome along boiler and into cabin and water sight gauge mounted in the cabin. Condition of this example is well above average but is offered uncleaned and is a bit dusty. The boiler shows evidence of having been fired and at some point an owner decided to scratch a social security number into the side boiler housing and on the freeboard panel on the tender. Further marking is a faint rubber stamped name and address on tender side. Offered along with the train is a finely crafted section of track with gravel ballast, all mounted on wood.
