Description
1930's Hell Driver's Stunt Show Token Grades Choice AU. lucky token that was available during the traveling shows of the Hell Drivers. The token has a 1930s car in mid air on one side and says Hell Drivers Lucky Piece. The other side has a picture of the founder, Lucky Terer and says May Good Luck Accompany the Bearer. Earl 'Lucky' Teter raced autos and motorcycles. He earned a reputation as a stunt driver with a group called 'Lucky' Teter's Hell Drivers. As a former gas station attendant and test driver, Lucky decided to try the thrill driving trade during the early 1930¹s. In 1934, Lucky assembled a small group of individuals and put his 'Hell Drivers' on the road. It marked the first time that an auto thrill show was a traveling attraction. The show consisted of established stunts but the 'Hell Drivers' developed new events as well. Lucky added the precision driving of new automobiles over elevated ramps, reverse spins, and added stuntmen to the show acting as 'daredevil clowns'. By the late 1930's, Lucky had started performing a ramp to ramp jump over a large truck or bus. It was this stunt that took Lucky's life in 1942, in what was said to be his last performance before he was to join the Army.
