Limited Edition Sir Edmund Hillary Signed Lithograph Print, No. 718/1953
Measuring 31" x 25", Toronto, Canada, dated 1992. A limited-edition lithograph print signed at the lower left margin "Ed Hillary." Also signed by the artist "James Lumbers" at the lower right margin. Embossed at the bottom edge: "Hillary Conquers Everest May 29, 1953". Limited edition, numbered at the bottom left corner: "718/1953". Published by Newport Editions Ltd. of Toronto, Ontario Canada. ©1992 Seastone Enterprises Ltd. Printed in Canada. Lightly creased with fold near the right edge. Very faint wear to the edges. The lithograph has been rolled. Overall, fine condition.
Sir Edmund Hillary (1919-2008), a Kiwi mountain climber, war veteran, author, and philanthropist, was the first man along with Tibetan guide Tenzing Norgay to summit Mt. Everest on May 29, 1953. As a result of his achievement, Hillary was knighted Sir Edmund By Queen Elizabeth II later that year. After Everest, Hillary continued to explore the world, regularly touring the Himalayas and Antarctica. Hillary established a charity that helped Nepalese Sherpas called the Himalayan Trust in 1960. James Lumbers (b. 1929) is a well-known Canadian artist who specializes in realistic paintings, many reflecting historic Canadian and Commonwealth themes.
